The Memorial Day Regatta was a big success!! Six boats participated in the V15 class. On the first day, winds started around 10 knots, and peaked with planing conditions around 13-15 in the afternoon. The sun was shining, and the weather was perfect.
Racing was tight with Doug Turnbull, Eric Knopf, and Jason Artof all exchanging positions in the top three. John Gibson had a blast sailing with his daughter Michelle. We were happy to have a guest appearance by Catherine King, from Sacramento, who sailed with Matt Hopps. Jeffrey Woods took advantage of a twice-around flag that others didn’t see in the 2nd race. He secured a 1st place, while all others placed a DNF.
The second day was sunny and windier than the first. Starting around 10 knots in the morning, the wind built to the 18-20 knot range in the afternoon. We had upwind planing conditions. Ironically, the lightest team out there, Doug and Kim checking in at 260lbs combined, had their boat going the fastest upwind when the wind was heaviest.
The racing was great!! Everybody had a good time on, off, and in the water. There was a post-race debrief where the participants shared the techniques they used on the water.
We are all pumped for the PCCs in Santa Barbara next month!!! |
