| TEAM RACE PRACTICE at NHYC | February 26 - 26 |

| The Vanguard 15 Practice at Newport Harbor Yacht Club on February 26th
and 27th was a huge success. Six boats and 16 people showed up on Saturday to start the day with a round table team race discussion (special thanks to Ossi and Susan as well as Matt McKinlay of the Vanguard Sailing Center of Southern California for letting us use their boats even though they didn't sail on Saturday). Conditions were perfect and we were able to get in a lot of races on the new team race "Digital N" course on Saturday. This was followed by dinner and a team race debrief at the Newport Harbor Brewing Company. Sunday had more of the same perfect wind conditions and sunny skies but less boats. We improvised and did 2 on 2 team racing all day. Everyone who attended the event had a great time and we all improved by the end of the weekend. The idea of the event was to get team race practice and experience in a fairly laid back environment and we definately accopmplished this goal. If you have not team raced before and want to give it a try or if you have been team racing for years, these practices are the place to be. We are planning on doing more events of this type in the near future in order to help build the fleet even more in Southern California. Please let me know if you have any questions or ideas for the next practice. I spoke with most everyone who sailed the event and we all agreed that it was more fun than most of the regattas that we have sailed in. See you on the water, J. Adam Deermount |
